Prekmurske Gorice Slovenian Wine

This area has been fairly inaccessible for a long time with vineyards that are scattered, presenting a problem for the production of high quality Slovenian wines. Despite this they have succeeded in making first class and fresh white wines such as those from the two varieties of Riesling which are very fine. Reasonable to good white Slovenian wines are made here from grapes such as Laski Riesling (Welsch Riesling), Sipon, Zeleni Silvanec, Beli Pinot, Sivi Pinot, Renski Riesling (Rhine Riesling), Rizvanec, Ranina, Zlahtnine, and some very acceptable Chardonnays.

Most red Slovenian wines here (from Modri Pinot and Modra Frankinja) are fresh and fruity but lack depth.


Radgona-Kapelske Gorice Slovenian Wine

Slovenian wine GlasessThis is a very promising are best known for its individual style Traminer and superb Zlata Radgonska Penina. This is the first Slovenian sparkling wine made by the traditional method.

There are also excellent Slovenian wines such as Pozne Trgatve (Spatlese), Arhivska Vina (Riserva), and Jagodni Izbor (Beerenauslese) from Radgona-Kapelske Gorice. Choose the most sultry wines such as Rumeni Muskat, Muskat Ottonel, Sivi Pinot, or Traminer, and for the best crus such as Perko, Kobilscak, Radenski Vrh, Hraysenski Vrh, Murscak or Rozicki, which produce the very best Traminer. There are first class fresh and dry white Slovenian wines made from grapes such as Laski Riesling (Welsch Riesling), Renski Riesling (Rhine Riesling), Beli Pinot, Sivi Pinot, Sipon, Ranina, Rizvanec, Zeleni Silvanec, and Zlahtnine. There are also pleasant fresh and fruity Slovenian wines made from Modri Pinot.


Central Slovenske Gorice Slovenian Wine

The influence of Austria on the wine-making here is noticeable. The local white wines are fresh and elegant and some of them are very delicious. The best dry white wines are made from Renski Riesling (Rhine Riesling) en Laski Riesling (Welsch Riesling), Beli Pinot, and Traminer. There are outstanding Pozne Trgatve (Spatlese), Izbori (Auslese), Suhi Jagodni Izbor (Trocken Beerenauslese) and Ledeno Vino (Eiswein). The red wines of Slovenske Gorice (Portugalka, Modra Frankrinja, Modri Pinot en Gamay) are fresh, light, and fruity. Drinking temperature is 12-14°C (53.6-57.2°F). A few very acceptable sparkling wines made by the traditional method are also produced here.
